Thermoelectric building temperature control: a potential assessment

Abstract This study focuses on thermoelectric elements (TEE) as an alternative for room temperature control. TEE are semi-conductor devices that can provide heating and cooling via a heat pump effect without direct noise emissions no refrigerant use. An efficiency evaluation of the optimal operating mode is carried out different numbers TEE, ambient temperatures, loads. The influence additional recovery unit system unevenly distributed demand examined. results show at coefficient performance (COP) greater than one especially small demands high temperatures. increases with number in subject to economies scale. best COP exceeds six conditions. proves beneficial low temperatures systems few TEE. It makes COPs above possible below 0 $$^\circ $$ ∘ C. by maximal 0.81 (from 1.90 2.71) 5 K $$\dot{Q}_h={100} W$$ Q ˙ h = 100 W but diseconomies Thermoelectric technology valuable option electricity-based supply ventilation functions. A careful design well significantly benefits performance. superior current competitive pumps scale applications focus avoiding harmful refrigerants.
